Safe-Pour Systems

The Acetarc SAFE-POUR is a battery powered bottom pouring unit that enables the ladle operator to control the bottom pouring of the metal at a safe distance using a radio remote control system.

The SAFE-POUR unit is self-contained and can be retro-fitted to ladles, including ones not manufactured by Acetarc.

There is no requirement to have a power feed cable connection which means that the SAFE-POUR ladle can be used on any crane.

Also, as the unit is self-contained, the ladle can be rotated without the need to disconnect either a power cable or hydraulic hoses.
The Safe-pour unit either on its own or combined with a motor drive for the controlled rotation of the ladle, can assist a foundry in the support of the Zero Harm safety initiative.

Crucible Handling Equipment

Acetarc Engineering design and manufacture a wide range of equipment for the handling of crucibles.

Internal crucible carriers are used for the handling of new crucibles and are specifically designed to allow a crucible liner to be safely and efficiently installed into a furnace.

External crucible carriers are designed for the handling of hot crucibles when filled with molten metal, and the range covers external lifting devices plus tilting cradles that can be used for pouring.

Acetarc can add porous plug preps (Gas Diffuser Preps) to ladles where the customer requires it.
The porous plug, often referred to as a gas diffuser, or a purging plug is a refractory nozzle installed into the base lining of the ladle that enables an inert gas to be introduced into the ladle to create a stirring action within the molten metal.
This stirring action can be used to mix additives into the metal to process the metal whilst it is in the ladle.

Additional Information

Acetarc can add the necessary preps to the base of the ladle that will allow the gas diffuser to be withdrawn externally from the base of the ladle.
Where the ladle requires more than one gas diffuser, the ladle can be fitted with a gas delivery system that enables a single connection to supply the gas to the various diffusers.
The ladle is also obviously modified to take into account the requirements of fitting the gas diffuser.
Acetarc can take this a step further and adapt the complete ladle design for a specific purpose such as it being used as a desulphurisation ladle.

Forklift Truck Ladles

Acetarc design and manufacture foundry ladles that are adapted for safe and efficient transportation and pouring of molten metal using forklift trucks.

Designs range from un-geared ladles that are exclusively handled and rotated using an FLT fitted with rotary forks through to geared crane ladles that have fork pockets added to assist with the safe and efficient transportation of the ladle using an FLT before being handled and poured using an overhead crane.

Additional Information

We also design and manufacture ladles that are mounted on a sub-frame to enable the ladle to be transported and tilted using a FLT that doesn’t have a rotary fork attachment. The tilting can either be done using an manually operated gearbox mounted on the ladle frame or the sub-frame can use hydraulics that attach to the FLT auxiliary hydraulic system and is directly controlled by the operator from the FLT cab.

Transfer & Casting Ladles

Acetarc transfer and casting ladles are designed for the efficient and safe transportation and pouring of all types of molten metals. Acetarc ladles transfer and casting ladles are based on either our medium-duty WESTMINSTER design or the heavy-duty WORKHORSE design, both of which are long proven designs.

Additional Information

Both ladle designs are robustly manufactured to give long and trouble free service in the foundry environment, whilst also being easy for a foundry’s own personnel to maintain so that downtime is minimised.

We appreciate that each customer may have their own specific needs, therefore our ladles can either be offered in a standard range of capacities and sizes or can be offered designed and manufactured to suit a customer’s exact requirements. For example, ladles that are to be used with pre-formed liners can have the ladle shell sized to suit the standard size of the liner to be used. Ladles that are to be used with high-temperature steel alloys can be fitted with an air-vented centre band (AVB) to reduce the heat transference from the ladle to the sidearms and gearbox.

Depending on the ladle design and capacity, ladles can be supplied as un-geared (crane tilt), lever tilt, manually operated gearbox or motorised gearbox for powered rotation.

Transfer and casting ladles can be offered with a choice of pouring spouts to suit your exact requirements, ranging from standard lip-pour to extended lip-pour and teapot spout. Special spouts, such as back slagging spouts, can be fitted where required. Ladle shells can incorporate features such as removable base sections to assist with the fitting/removal of the refractory lining of the ladle.

Where requested, ladles can be supplied with covers (a number of standard designs are available). As standard Workhorse ladles are fitted with trunnion splash guards and a heat shield, to protect the lifting hook.
